For the 2025/26 academic year, the NAEO has launched a new and improved version of the Exams Officer Professional Standards platform which can be found on this website.
These improvements are in response to feedback from exams officers, senior leaders, and line managers. As part of the changes, creating centres and managing accounts is more straightforward, putting centres in control. We have also added ways for senior leaders and line managers to participate and oversee the Standards more easily.
Process for administering and acquiring the Standards

Registering
Exams officers should register for the Exams Officer Professional Standards as soon as possible in September or October.
The first user registers their centre, this can be a senior leader, line manager or exams officer. They become the centre administrator and all other users register themselves and join the centre. Registrations are approved by a centre administrator, who can optionally assign administration rights to other users.
Even if you have used the platform in previous years, there is a requirement to re-register this year to ensure the data integrity we have for you. Please be assured that Exams Officer Professional Standards certification data for previous years remains intact and will be migrated automatically as centre staff re-register.
Achieving the Exams Officer Professional Standards
The exams officer and senior leader/line manager should meet to set targets and sign the Values and Attributes statement. This statement confirms a commitment to maintain the integrity and security of the examination system within the centre.
Targets should be based around Knowledge and Understanding and the Key Skills required to effectively perform the exam officer role.
The Exams Officer Professional Standards Tracker page includes a list of suggested areas relating to the Key Skills, Knowledge and Understanding for each exams officer.
Regular meetings should take place where progress against targets is identified and recorded, and, if required, additional support arranged to ensure that all targets are achieved.
Claiming the Exams Officer Professional Standards certificate
Once the senior leader/line manager is satisfied that all targets have been achieved, they can claim certification by confirming completion in all three key areas (Knowledge and Understanding, Key Skills and Values and Attributes statement) via the Tracker within the Senior Leader and Line Manager Exam Support website.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
The Exams Officer Professional Standards platform remains free of charge and serves as a key element of your CPD, which is now detailed as a requiremeent within JCQ regulations [General Regulations for Approved Centres, section 5.3] which state that:
'...examinations officers must...undertake regular CPD, such as attending an annual update course'.
The Standards serve as a framework for an exams officer's CPD by ensuring that their targets focus upon key areas such as Knowledge and Understanding, Key Skills, and Values and Attributes, and that progress against targets is closely monitored and recognised.
