Values and Attributes Statement

The third element of the Exams Officer Professional Standards is the completion/signing of a Values and Attributes Statement

The Values and Attributes Statement can be generated and downloaded from the exams officer management area (click here).

It should be signed annually by both the exams officer and senior leader/line manager, and retained as evidence of completion of the standards and used as part of any appraisal/performance management process.

By signing the Values and Attributes Statement, an exams officer is confirming that examinations/assessments will be managed, administered and conducted in accordance with JCQ and awarding body regulations/requirements.

The statement also confirms that:

  • the integrity of the examination/assessment process is maintained at all times
  • the security of question papers and all other confidential materials is maintained at all times, and that any concerns of a potential breach of security are reported to the awarding body immediately
  • a ‘level playing field’ exists so that a candidate(s) is not unfairly disadvantaged or advantaged in the conducting of an examination/assessment
  • any instances of candidate, staff or centre malpractice – suspected or actual - are reported immediately as detailed in JCQ’s Suspected Malpractice: Procedures and Processes publication

Finally, by signing the Values and Attributes Statement an exams officer is confirming that they possess a thorough knowledge of the latest versions of JCQ and awarding body regulations, requirements and processes, and are utilising this knowledge to advise, guide and support their line manager/senior leadership team/head of centre.
